Hi from Ian and Mary: Our story is like that of many others. We live on a ten acre parcel of land in the Uxbridge area of Ontario. Three years ago, we were on Vancouver Island visiting friends. At this time, we were planning on early retirement which would happen within two years. Ian had mentioned that he would like to visit some alpaca farms on the island. I thought to myself, an alpaca farm? What is an alpaca? Well, we went to see the alpacas, and both Ian and I fell in love with them. What a great way to keep busy in retirement. We did research for two years, going to many farms, asking many questions, meeting so many wonderful alpaca people. We got some good ideas on how to set up our new operation. In May of 2006, our new family of alpacas arrived at Northfork. We have fallen madly in love with each and every one of our alpacas. Our mission is to have and produce healthy, happy alpacas with beautiful fleece and amazing crias. We have so much opportunity here in Canada to have world class fleece. 2007 was a very rewarding year for us. We showed for the first time at the Alpaca Ontario Show in Orangeville, Ontario. We took Lolita and Myrtelle and they won First and Second in class. Lolita went on to win Best Adult Female and Grand Champion Female. Wow! In November 2007, we attended the Alpaca Canada Futurity Show in Orangeville. Our boy Conquistador came fourth in his class and our boy Senone came second in his class. We were so excited. At the auction on Saturday night, we purchased Sweet Dream’s Zac Accoyo Cat. What a beautiful alpaca and his fleece is fantastic. Anyone wishing further information, please feel free to contact us and we will be more than happy to answer your questions. Ian and Mary |
